Oakville, ON – The NDG Senior Lynx won their opening game at the 2008 Canadian Senior Little League Championship 9-5 with a stunning late rally over Glace Bay Antonians from Nova Scotia.

Early dominance by Glace Bay’s starting pitcher Jeff Conn held NDG’s offence to just two hits and one unearned run through the first three innings.

Glace Bay’s offence came out strong in the third inning scoring four runs and taking a 5-1 lead. However a productive fifth inning, lead by Jeremi Roch’s two-run double cut the Glace Bay lead in half.

Going into the sixth inning with NDG trailing 5-3 a bizarre play turned everything around.  With the base loaded and two out, NDG’s Jack Melkerson hit a line drive that struck Glace Bay centerfielder Brad Walton in the face. Walton was injured on the play and could not field the ball. Three runs scored on the play and NDG took a 6-5 lead. Two batters later Jeremi Roch continued his plate dominance by hitting a three-run home run over the leftfield fence to extend the lead to 9-5.

Solid defensive plays for the remainder of the game sealed the deal and NDG earned their first win of the tournament bringing their record to 1-0.

The Lynx look to extend their win streak against the Ontario champions from Orleans on August 2 at 3:00pm EDT.
