Whalley jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings on the strength of two homeruns by centerfielder Adam Quan. In the top of the fourth inning, a combination of sloppy defence by the Chiefs and three timely hits by NDG allowed the Lynx to score five runs and take a 5-4 lead. The lead was shortlived as Whalley bounced back to score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, three more in the fifth and 1 in the sixth to take a 10-5 lead going into the seventh. NDG rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh but Whalley relief pitcher Carson Nylund was able to get out of the inning to preserve the win. Whalley rightfielder Brian Wearing made a great throw to the plate to gun down NDG first baseman Jeremi Roch that help stuff out the rally. The winning pitcher for Whalley was Chris Fischer. Mike Byer took the loss for NDG. The Championship semi-fianl game has been moved up to 3:00 PM EST to try and avoid thunder showers forecast for later in the day. |
